Bring What May and Call it Life

I cruised out to the lake today to take some pictures. We do not see ice on the lakes that much around here so I took the opportunity to take some pictures. It was a bit cold out but otherwise a great day. I watched the birds fly about and bask on the ice, it went quite far into the lake.

I also met a few folks while out there. I met a couple from North Dakota. We exchanged photo taking. So now I have a rare picture of myself. I also met a guy looking for homes in the area. I saw other photoing, running, and biking. As I left I saw a guy who hates the liberals but probably is not that big a fan of mother earth.

What is This??

This was pretty cool, had to put it up.

So, I am trying to reckon just what has been going on with me. I am really not so sure. I spend my days trying to fill up my days. I did some reading mostly yesterday. But at times I was just restless and blank. I went for a walk around the house and tetanus laden lawn ornaments even though it was quite cold out. I have been thinking a bit but have not arrived at any conclusions. I had a job interview last week so I am hoping on that to come through. But I am not so sure just because the way things have been going for me. I have not been able to get a crap job but this seems like a 'dream job.' During the interview process I wanted to ask if they were for real or just yanking my chain. At any rate, this was another interview where I got to see some ultra-cool stuff. Which (to end on a good note) has reminded of how truly blessed I have been to see lots of great and wonderful things, places, and people.

Butterflies = God is Cool

Well this may seem like an odd topic to peruse. Especially since I should be studying for the midterm that I have in the morning. Fortunately, I am not worshiping watching Idol like a lot of other folks. I am deciding to blog about the greatness of our Lord. Of course, I would rather study or watch paint dry than that Idol thing anyway.

Butterflies, most people like them. In fact, the environment is full of them right now. All kinds of butterflies are all over the place around this neck of the woods. However, some big storm rolled through town a bit earlier. The wind gusted up to about 70 mph or so, higher in some places. As such, trees were blown over and apart. Mailboxes gained temporary flight status and some trailers were blown off of the highway. Also, some houses lost their roofs. But, as we all know, the caterpillar cocoons himself in the beginning of spring. They bond the tip of themselves rather tightly to whatever surface they happen upon. I was amazed after some of the storms last week at how the cocooned caterpillar was still attached and undamaged. But even more so I am amazed after this storm. The wind blew quite hard. Water was blown into the house through any small crevice. But the butterfly in waiting is still firmly attached. The Lord is wonderful. Butterflies are quite beautiful. And God has made them such that even the high winds do not keep the cocooned caterpillar from not fulfilling its task. God put some amazingly strong bonding action into the cocooning process of the caterpillar. It is only attached in a very small area and the rest of the cocoon hangs down.

So, God provides richly for the butterflies. How much then do you think that He will provide for us, whom God also created? The caterpillar trusts its instinct and cocoons itself and then becomes a butterfly even through the bitterest of storms. We, sometimes leave off of this simple thinking to trust in ourselves. We know exactly where this has gotten us. On the other hand, trusting in God gets us riches that we cannot even measure. Like the butterfly. We still trust God to provide us with beautiful butterflies, and He does.

Well, Another Day

It was another great day; even here. To start with, was the remembrance of the Star's win last night; that was a good one. Also, the Star's won tonight as well. They stomped the Coyotes on Tuesday. I got to go to that game with a bunch of folks from the center.

But today was absolutely gorgeous outside. It may have still been wet, muddy, and you wanted to stay away from the creek today. Which was ok cause the Trinity River actually started to resemble a river.

At some point I got to break free today and head out fishing. I thought I would try something new so I hit up Mountain Creek Lake. It was a nice place. I took a bunch of pictures of the park and such. The fishing did not go so well though. So I headed over to Joe Pool Lake to finish up the day. I did not do so well there either but had a good time. The water was up quite a bit at Joe Pool and so a bunch of junk was up against the shore and the fish were even farther away.

But anyway, the day was great; the sunset even nicer.

Up and away....

This afternoon I had 3 things planned. Of course I could get all done but still three I had on the menu. Well, none of them did I get to. As is my style, I keep myself open for whatever may come along the way. So today, as we were walking back from lunch something a bit different occurred. One of my comrades had an idea. This is quite a windy day so the idea of flying a kite was born. Off to the boutique, alas, but closed. No we do not quit there. On to the warehouse we trodded. They were open and of course have lots of odds and ends. We grabbed some supplies and headed to the place of housing the guests.

There we did not work out a plan for building a kite; we just started in on the building. Planning to a lesser degree just kind of folded out. We did wind up with a kite. It was no small labor for three of us guys. The women folk just knitted and hemmed the haw. Although, they did come out to see our maiden flight.

So, ready for some high flying, we launched our kite into the sky.... and then shortly picked it up off of the ground. An act which was ritually repeated. This was interspersed with making modifications to the kite. We almost had it up flying steady a few times. But the string would invaribly break at such a juncture No professional kiting on the horizon for us. We still had a resplinded afternoon. Not much can compare indeed. Though met not with existential success, we three felt like kings. And again in the future may once again take our ingenuity to the skies.

Weather, Time and Fish

Well, spring is here, kind of. It does seem that we have sprung forward in time at least. But that only come through effort. After all these years of technology, the auto time shift has been achieved on clocks and computers. So now, the time change date has been altered and back into chaos we go. I have to change the time manually. No big deal right? Well, in a week or two when the normal time for time changing comes, my auto time changing will kick in. Then I will have to set time manually again; which means that I have set the time twice as opposed to once when we had less technology. Much fun!

Back to springtime fun. I got a chance to go fishing this weekend. I was blessed with enough money for a fishing license, which is quite a lot of dough in this state. I cannot get over it costing a whole lot less to get an out-of-country license in Netherlands though. But anyway, like they say, nothing is free.

I had a great time just being outdoors in the almost 90 degree weather. Of course the requisite sunburn was achieved. Only caught one small fish that I tossed back. I also had to drive around the lake to find a spot that did not cost to fish at. Which is another point of contention but I will let that one slide for now because most, if not all lakes in Texas at least have one free area.

I posted some pics from my outing this weekend.

object in picture may appear much smaller

Lost in de Dust

wind_sand

It was quite windy even more than usual today.

Trees were blowing all around
Some fell on the ground
Crash what was that awful sound

As the wind persistently blew, the front moved along. The closer it got, the more it looked like rain and cloud. But alas, it was upon us and no water fell on us. It was a sand front. Not to be confused with a sand storm. But I guess they both occur with the same frequency in these parts. The air was thick like fog. You could not see far and the dust collected in the nose and on the car. As evening arose the sky was aglow.
